Berlin champions with regional league premiere

Türkiyemspor Berlin will face a historical moment on Sunday, September 5. After winning the 2019/2020 Berlin championship, the Kreuzberg women are playing their first game in the national regional league. First game opponents: The women's team from Viktoria Berlin (2 p.m., Willi Kressman Stadium). After the men's teams from Türkiyemspor represented Berlin in the Regionalliga in 1994/95 and from 2008 to 2011, the women from Türkiyemspor are now nationwide.

Despite Covid-19 related shortened season, the Berlin championship was clear for Türkiyem. No team dominated the league as strongly as the Kreuzberg women with coach Murat Dogan. 114: 8 goals and 54 points from only 19 games illustrate their dominance on the field. 114 goals this season also means that Türkiyemspor scored an average of every 15 minutes of play. Despite the short season, Türkiyemspor wants to belong in the third level regional league. “We want to prove that we didn't become champions just because the League ended early. We want to represent Berlin properly in the league and show that we belong there,” said Dogan.

Reinforcement for the regional league

Even though Türkiyemspor dominated the Berlin League in 2019/2020 and presented a very good team structure, the coaching staff has decided to strengthen the team. With 6 newcomers, including two from the Trürkiyemspor U-17 youth team, the team should become more flexible. “We have worked for years on the sustainable sporting development of the entire department. In addition to the promotion to the regional league, we have also started a U23 team for this season, who should further strengthen the foundation of the club,” explained the coach. Season goal: not to drop down a level!

The regional league

 

The Regionalliga Nord is the third highest division in women's football in Germany. Due to the current pandemic, the 2020/21 season will be played in two leagues. In addition to Türkiyemspor, the “North League” includes FC Union, Viktoria Berlin, Hohen Neuendorf, Rostocker FC, FSV Babelsberg 47 and SFC Stern 1900. After the fist and second halves of the League, the promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga will be held in a championship round, in which the first four teams of each League will meet each other.

The Department

Although Türkiyemspor was founded in 1978, its women and girls' divisions  have only been around for 16 years. The plan for this division envisages a step-by-step creation of a women's and girls' soccer department through the annual establishment of new youth teams, from which more mature teams will develop. Today the department with 12 teams and 260 players is one of the largest in the German capital. The women's team, which was founded in 2010, has managed 3 promotions from the district league to today's regional league in just seven years. The department is supported by sporting goods manufacturer Nike, which will continue its sponsorship in the regional league season.

Volkswagen, DFB and Türkiyemspor

Türkiyemspor player Aylin Yaren has a spot in the first Volkswagen campaign for the German soccer association (DFB) called: “Fussball, das sind wir alle” (Football, That's What We Are). Aylin is not only prominently featured in the spotlight of the campaign, but also in the making-of video for the campaign and on banners and posters throughout Germany.

From the Kiez, For the Kiez: New basketball department of Türkiyemspor Berlin e.V.

2018, in the year of it’s 40th Year Anniversary, Türkiyemspor Berlin e.V. is expanding it’s range of sports, through the founding of its first ever basketball department. Its focus will be on the promotion of women’s and girls’ basketball in Berlin. Already starting in September, three teams will compete in the regular season of the Berlin Basketball Association (BBV).

“For us, it is highly important, to create a sports opportunity for girls and women in Kreuzberg – since we see a high potential there”, says Lena Demke, interim manager of the department. “With Turkiyemspor, we have found a club that shares these values and has a lot of experience with the successful development of their female football division”. At the same time, the focus will be on basketball for all levels so that a variety of athletes from the Kiez can participate in the club’s life.

For the club, the foundation of a new department means the expansion of their range of sports that – thus far – has mainly included football. Durmuş Matur, First Chairman of Türkiyemspor: “This year we are celebrating our 40^th club anniversary. It is a big gift for us to now have a basketball department. This is an addition to our previous offer and a development opportunity for our club. We are looking forward to our new members and their input to Türkiyemspor e.V.”

Through a crowdfunding campaign, people who are interested in sports, will be able to support the building up of the new department at Türkiyemspor. Starting in November at fairplaid.org.

No goals in Katzbachstadion

No goals on the 23^rd match day of the Berlin Landes League in the Kreuzberg Katzbachstadion, when previously 2^nd ranked Türkiyemspor faced off against league leader Berolina Stralau. Türkiyemspor slips down a spot now to rank 3^rd in the Landes League.

It was a balanced game, with strong game strategy from both coaches and equally strong defense. Goal chances were in short supply. The best chances had Türkiyem still in the first half of the game by Türkiyemspor’s Oumar Sangare and Beyazit Taflan had the best chances of the game during the first half but both times the Berolina keeper Martin Dwars kept the net safe. A number of substitutions were put in during the second half but they brought no decisive results.

Türkiyem stands now with 47 points, down a slot to third place in the rankings, tied with the current second because of the  goal difference. Türkiyemspor will have to compete against TSV Mariendorf's strong team next weekend. Kick off is at 14:45 on Sunday, April 29 in Volkspark Mariendorf.

Not a good weekend

After several weeks of uninterrupted success, the first defeat in 2018 for Türkiyemspor’s #1 Men’s team came on Sunday at Katzbachstadion. In a double whammy, the #1 Women’s team also lost their home game at Blücherstraße.

Last Friday we had said the Sunday game would be an important chance for the men’s team to show how they had used the three week long Landes League break. It is hard for any team to keep its momentum going after such a long break.

Nevertheless, Türkiyemspor took the lead early on Sunday and everything seemed to be going well, scoring the first goal of the game. But the opponent Lichtenrader BC, as we mentioned last week, was fighting to keep a very precarious position in the league. After just 6 minutes they brought the game to a 1 : 1 tie, pulling their advantage to 1 : 2 before the first half was over.

By the second half, they had a 1 : 3 lead. The Blue and Whites gave it their all, only to see the game get harder. Türkiyem’s Bekai Jagne shot their second goal just before the final whistle, but it was too late for victory and the game ended 2 : 3 for Lichtenrader.

Türkiyemspor gets to keep its second place in the league though as its closest competitor also suffered a defeat.

On Sunday, April 15, the league continues with Türkiyem up against Berliner SC at high noon. This will be another dangerous game for the Blue and Whites because like Lichtenrader, next week’s opponent will also be bringing it all in fight to stay in the league. Türkiyemspor should be forewarned.

Even the women lost

Last Sunday brought a double defeat as the first women of Türkiyem conceded 0 : 2 to Borussia Pankow at Blücherplatz. Türkiyemspor dominated the first part of the match but couldn’t keep its advantage. Türkiyemspor’s 1^st Women’s team continues in fifth place with 34 points. On Sunday they will play Hertha 03 at 12:15pm.

4 goals by Cihan Mutlu

The second men’s team bought the club some solace on Saturday when they scored a significant 6:1 win over Nordberliner SC in the Kreis League. The player of the day was Cihan Mutlu, who managed to shoot 4 goals. That team is now in 6^th place with 35 points, just 5 points shy of jumping up a spot. The Kreis League games continue for the Blue and Whites on Sunday, April 15 at SF Charlottenburg.
